Miscellaneous Programs

Aerobics
This class meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m.- 9:30 a.m. at the Community Recreation Center. This class is taught by Sara McKenzie. It includes step aerobics. The fee is $25 for six weeks.

Water Aerobics
Water Aerobics classes are offered for those who want to improve: Flexibility, range of motion, balance, coordination, muscle tone, strength, cardio, respiratory and energy level. All exercises are low impact with medium intensity. Men and women; swimminers and non-swimmers are welcome. Come join the fitness, make new friends and have lots of fun!

Early Bird Morning Water Aerobics
Instructor: Debbie Headley. Classes meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6-7 a.m. Fees: $20 per month. For more information contact Debbie at 372-1816.

Mid-Morning Water Aerobics
Instructor: Connie Tatom. Classes meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7:50-8:50 a.m. Fees: $25 per month. Special needs participants are welcome. Instructor: Mike Tatom. For more information contact Connie at 243-5846. Certified instructor.

Late-Morning Water Aerobics

Evening Water Aerobics

Pilates
Morning class and Evening Class

Pilates is an exercise program that strengthens your muscles while at the same time stretching them to provide more flexibility. The main goal of Pilates is to strengthen your abdominal muscles in order to move more efficiently. Possible benefits of Pilates include additional muscle strength, increased flexibility, improved body posture and better aliggnment.

Our Evening Pilates class meets every Tuesday and Thursday nights, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center. The cost is $25 per month. You must bring your own exercise mat, or a towel. Register now by calling 670-6069.

Ballroom Dancing
Ballroom Dancing meets every Monday, with a 5:30 class and a 6:30 class. The cost is $50 pe rcouple and $25 for singles, for the 6-week session. The instructor is Joyce Sorrell, and you can register by calling 670-6069. The fee is payable to the instructor the first night of the class.

Silver Sneakers
Silver Sneakers offers an innovative blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming that allows older adults to take greater control of their health.
SilverSneakers members receive:

  • A free fitness center membership at a nearby participating location with access to conditioning classes, exercise equipment, pool, sauna and other available amenities
  • Access to any participating fitness center throughout the U.S. while traveling
  • Customized SilverSneakers classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance
  • Health education seminars and other events that promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle
  • A specially trained Senior Advisor at the fitness center to introduce you to SilverSneakers and acquaint you with their site.

Dance Class
A beginning adult dance class which combines jazz, modern, lyrical and musical theatre dance is offered every Tuesday night, from 6:45-7:45 p.m., for anyone ages 15 and older.

The class is held at the Recreation Center, and is $20 per month. You can register at the main office, or call 670-6069 for more information. Be sure ot wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and jazz or ballet shoes.

Gymnastics Classes
Classes offered for boys and girls. Program offered by Troy Parks and Recreation Department and Monica's Gymnastics and Cheer-Athletics at the Recreation Center.

Cheerleading
This program is open for girls in grades 1-6. The girls will cheer for the Termite and Peewee football leagues sponsored by our department. Games are held on weekday nights and Saturdays.

Dates: Season - Late September through November Registration: July 22 - August 23

Registration fee: No charge.

Day Camps Murphree Park and Washington Park
Murphree Park Day Camp is held Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for four weeks during the summer. Activities include playground, table games, and art projects. Each Friday is
"Special Treat Day". Lunch is provided daily. Camp workers are qualified in child care. Fee is $10.00 per session, with sessions being one week in length. Pre-registration is required. Information: (334)

July 4th Fireworks Celebration
One of the largest fireworks displays in this area is held each July 4 at Troy University's Movie Gallery Stadium. We encourage you to enjoy a spectacular display of fireworks, compliments of the City of Troy.

Community Christmas Tree
The Community Christmas Tree is a cooperative effort between the Parks and Recreation Department and the Pike County Christmas Program. The tree is used to raise money for the less fortunate families
of Pike County. Clubs, businesses, organizations, and individuals alike are asked to purchase Angels for the tree. The Angels are $5 each with all proceeds going to benefit needy families. Each Angel is
placed on the tree and donors names are published locally. Angels may be purchased in memory of someone, in the name of a business, club, or organization, or purchased individually. For more information
